Same Scenario, Different Rules
Panzergrenadier vs. BKC IV
After the last BKC IV scenario, which was a disaster, someone in the group suggested that we run the same scenario with the latest version of Panzergrenadier. This time the results were a bit different in that the Russians were winning on one flank while the Germans were winning on the other when the game was called. The Panzeregrenadier system uses squads as the basic infantry unita and you need a lot of command stands! We had to improvise with our BKC IV forces to make things work, but had to leave out several commands from the first battle. However, this did give us a pretty good look at the system, even though we had played it once previously. The main takeaways are that the command system does a pretty good job overall of getting commands to move and fire while providing a bit of chaos. The infantry fights were really interesting as you do things in companies or groups, which is much different than in most rules. The armor duels seemed a bit strange and there was some reservations about the large number of charts that are in use, which made us think that group games with these rules should be done with a lot fewer commands than we had on the board. We'll have to give it another try sometime soon.
