A SAMPLING OF NUTS

“You still play with toy soldiers?”
“Yes we do!”
“What, are you NUTS?”
“Yes we are!!!”

Some of us Northern Utah Tacticians and Strategists (NUTS) have been proudly playing wargames together for nearly twenty years, but the half dozen hardcore club members linked up about six years ago. Our eclectic collections include scratch-built and commercial terrain and thousands of figures to support a wide variety of historical, hysterical, and hypothetical tabletop battles. While each of us has specialties and preferences, fortunately most areas of interest overlap and where they don’t (Gary and Greenskins), there’s plenty of good natured tolerance and indulgence. Individual’s depth of interest in any one period may range from toe-dipping to plunging off the deep end. Bart does some of everything, but has a special love for WWII and Space Marines. He also wrote Battlefield Africa Colonial Rules. Gary is a campaign master, specializing in WWII, Colonials, ACW, Napoleonics, and medieval armies, mostly in 15mm. Tom’s “Colonial Problem” encompasses the entire Victorian Era; he even has his own SoloColonial website, featuring his campaign in MyAfrica. He also has a “WWII, North Africa problem”. Jim does 25mm Napoleonic, ACW and Fantasy troops & scenery, and enjoys writing. Mike likes a variety of eras and is a dedicated boardgamer, while Dave, our newest NUT, is starting on WWII. But to top it all, besides collecting, painting, and developing campaigns and scenarios, Craig recently acquired GAJO Enterprises from his good friend George Johnson and continues to expand the available lines.

NUTS enjoy the multi-faceted aspects of the wargaming hobby. A pilgrimage to Historicon is becoming an annual event. Our Mission Statement (if we were to put it in writing) would probably include researching or reinventing history, creating top-notch table-top terrain, collecting, painting and fielding opposing armies of great looking soldiers, vehicles and vessels, and, in the best spirit of brotherly love, slaughtering each other in style. Our primary goal is to have fun together (spiced with a generous helping of good-natured taunts and competitive puns). We welcome new ideas and rules (recently adding Square Bashing and AK47 games to our repertoire), and have started hosting occasional Warhammer and 40K games for Junior NUTS. Visitors and new members are welcome.

Usually 15 and 25mm.
